May 28 Thursday Morning Ride Report
Post date: Jun 2, 2015 3:38:41 PM
With temperatures already in the high 70’s at 10 AM, the group descended into West Groton and rode up some of the foothills in Pepperell to Hollis, NH. We stopped to enjoy the shade under the trees at Monument Square and took advantage of restrooms at Town Hall, enjoying snacks and drinks from the Market.
Jack abandoned due to the heat, and the riders proceeded on some nice downhills on Wheeler Road, where Dom discovered a slow leak in his rear tire. Roy (sweep) called ahead to Lindy and the front group waited as Dom pumped up the tube with a CO2 cartridge. We resumed the ride but Dom’s tire continued to lose pressure, necessitating a second pause for a tube change. This was successful and the ride resumed. [This illustrates exactly how our exchange of phone numbers and sweep-calling-leader protocol should work - good job! - Editor]
The group stayed relatively close together and rode along shady roads, criss-crossing the Nashua Rail Trail multiple times as they approached Groton. Ron and Merle split for home and the rest of the peloton finished back at Station Avenue.
A bunch of riders went out to cool off and enjoy lunch at Filho’s Cucina after the ride. We discussed earlier start times on especially hot days so that is a distinct possibility for future rides. Many thanks to Roy for volunteering as ride sweep today and the many human arrows!
